📌 1. QEC Functions

As guided by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and Khyber Medical University (KMU), the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) is responsible for the following functions:

▶ The QEC is headed by the Director/Head QEC, reporting directly to the Head of the Institution and serving as the main correspondent with external bodies.

▶ Promoting public confidence in the quality and standards of degrees awarded.

▶ Reviewing quality standards in teaching and learning across all subject areas.

▶ Evaluating academic affiliations with other institutions to ensure effective program management and quality.

▶ Defining clear and explicit standards as reference points for reviews.

▶ Ensuring alignment with the National Qualifications Framework, including attributes and abilities of degree holders.

▶ Ensuring proper Program Specifications: outlining the knowledge, skills, and attributes a student gains after completing a program.

▶ Developing quality assurance processes and evaluation methods to support:

➡ Faculty development

➡ Research and scholarly activities

▶ Ensuring university procedures align with national frameworks for maintaining and enhancing quality.

▶ Designing procedures for:

➡  Approval of new programs

➡  Student feedback

➡  Institutional assessment

➡  Self-assessment reports (SARs)

➡  National & International Memberships and Rankings 

2. Qec Structure

The Quality Enhancement Cell of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Institute of Medical Sciences was established in 2019 under the umbrella of the Quality Assurance Agency of the Higher Education Commission. After the completion of the project period, KPIMS took over the Quality Enhancement Cell on its regular budget as one of its permanent departments.

The basic aim of the Quality Enhancement Cell is to improve the standard of education, bringing it in line with the standards set for quality education at the national and international levels. The responsibility of QEC is to assess and evaluate the academic policies and programs and give recommendations accordingly for any improvements if required.

The Quality Enhancement Cell of Khyber Medical University is engaged in the accomplishment of targets set to create a quality culture in the university with advanced practices of quality enhancement. During the period 2019–2024, there has been an amazing change in the steps taken to bring KPIMS to its very position it is now on. Similarly, the standards of education provision, teaching faculty development and development in infrastructure has always been possible by the dent of QEC, as they found the issues, tried to devise the ways to identify the solutions and KPIMS family took the initiatives to clear up issues.
